School-Studio “SHAR” was founded in 1993 by leading filmmakers Fyodor Khitruk, Eduard Nazarov, Yuri Norshtein and Andrey Khrzhanovskiy.
The principal directions of the School-Studio’s activity are:
– 2 years vocational training of the directors of animation cinema and animators
– production of animated films
– advices from masters on all aspects of animation production.
Studio focuses on the production of children films as well as auteur films.
Our teachers are leading directors and animators with an invaluable experience: Andrey Khrzhanovsky, Alexey Demin, Ivan Maximov, Violetta Kolesnikova, Mikhail Tumelya, Elena Chernova, Vladimir Vyshegorodtsev.
In 2013 School-studio “SHAR” celebrated the 20-year anniversary. During these years “SHAR” has trained a huge number of film directors and more than 70 films were created. Films of the school-Studio “SHAR” were repeatedly noted with awards at Russian and International Festivals and also nominated for prestigious awards. Most of the graduates of the School-Studio “SHAR” are known animators, winners of International and Russian Festivals.
At the 13th Zagreb Animation Film Festival Animafest the School-Studio was awarded with a Special Prize in a category of “Best Animation School” in 1998. In 2006, at the International Festival of Animation Films “KROK”, the prize “For the best film school program» was received. In 2013 a special Diploma of the Open Russian Festival of Animated Film “For the preservation of the school and the best traditions of Russian animation in the newest period of Russian history” was awarded.
